KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional MPs, who met Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Saturday to brief him on the situation and issues in their constituencies, welcomed the face-to-face meeting with their boss.
Batang Sadong MP Nancy Shukri said the meeting would boost their spirit in their work as elected representatives.
She said Najib wanted to know the kind high-impact projects that could help Barisan win the general election.
“The main problems in my constituency and the surrounding constituencies are similar. "The people are concerned about the lack of treated water supplies, poorly maintained roads and lack of electricity," she said.
“The infrastructures are available, but it is not enough to cater to the expanding population as new housing estates emerge," she said, adding her constituency recorded a 25% increase in population within a span of five years.
Batang Lupar MP Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim described the meeting as a good start for the year as the Prime Minister wanted to know issues affecting the people.
“And the Prime Minister responded very positively to the local issues I highlighted during the meeting,” she said.
Julau MP Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said the Prime Minister had asked them to work hard to fulfil promises made to the people and resolve problems in their constituencies
Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said it was fantastic to be given a chance to talk about their constituency on a one-to-one basis.
Former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi described Najib's hands-on approach to gauge problems on the ground as something new. "It is good," said the Kepala Batas MP before meeting Najib.
Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin said the Prime Minister had detailed information on progress and problems in each constituency.
"Basically he wants feedback from us on which should be given priority for implementation," he said.
Asked if five minutes was enough to meet the Prime Minister to discuss issues in the constituency, he said it was enough.
"We went direct to the point, there is no waste of time," he said. - Star
