KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 — The Selangor DAP has scoffed at the choice of Datuk Satim Diman as state opposition leader, claiming that it showed that the state Umno is devoid of any capable leaders.
State DAP chairman Teresa Kok mocked Satim’s record as a state assemblyman, claiming the Puchong Umno division chief’s performance as an elected representative was “appalling”.
Satim was appointed opposition leader to stand in for former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo who stepped down as he is facing graft charges.
But Kok (picture), who is also Seputeh MP, said that Satim “is even more incompetent than his predecessor Khir, and matches Khir only in their common lack of integrity.”
Noting that an opposition leader is also a mentri besar-in-waiting, Kok said that Satim was no match for incumbent Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and the appointment showed that “Umno Selangor is truly bankrupt of capable leaders.”
Kok and Satim share some bad blood as Satim had accused her of forbidding the azan call to prayer by Masjid Al-Ehsan in Puchong.
The resulting furore resulted in her detention under the Internal Security Act despite the mosque chairman coming out in support of her against the accusation.
Calling Satim a liar and his accusation malicious, Kok further attacked his attendance record in the state assembly.
“He has never been an active participant in the DUN (state assembly) debate, revealing his apathy towards the affairs of the state government and his failure to represent the interests of his Sri Serdang constituents,” the senior state executive councillor said.
The Kinrara assemblyman also claimed that Satim’s constituents, who share the same parliamentary area as hers, often came to her or Puchong MP Gobind Singh for help as the former Selangor Umno secretary was rarely on the ground. - Malaysian Insider
