The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) is in the process of investigating the trio who call themselves 'Datuk T' and have admitted responsibility for the March 21 screening of a sex video allegedly featuring a key opposition leader, the PKR Youth wing says.
"I am confident that Jawi is committed and seemed earnest about investigating the case. I don't want to make any assumption, but the Qazaf case must be taken to the Syariah court for prosecution," PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin (right) told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
He was speaking to reporters after spending two hours at Jawi, where his statement was recorded in a follow up to a report lodged with the Islamic authority on the matter by PKR Youth early this month.
Shamsul explained that the statement he gave to Jawi was about the video screening that took place at the luxury Carcosa Seri Negara hotel in Kuala Lumpur, with a focus on the involvement of certain individuals in the screening.
PKR Youth's report to Jawi was lodged under Section 41 of the Syariah Criminal Offences Act for Qazaf, or wrongful accusation of zina (out-of-wedlock sex) against Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Malaysiakini has also been informed that Jawi contacted several of the journalists who were present during the screening of the video on the sexual intercourse claimed to be between the key opposition figure and a Chinese-looking woman.
According to the source, the religious authority singled out the Muslim journalists among the select group of journalists and senior editors who were invited to the screening of the video on March 21 by a group calling themselves 'Datuk T'.
Two days later, three individuals claiming to be 'Datuk T' - including former Malacca chief minister Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, held a press conference toconfess that they were responsible for the screening.
The other individuals were businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and former Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim.
Police have already concluded their investigation into the matter and have said that both the man and the women in the sex video have been identified. - Malaysiakini
