PAS moves centre as Umno veers far-right

your say'Will the Malays vote for a unified Malaysia under Pakatan and face adversity together, or return to Umno and face economic uncertainty alone?'

Vote PAS to remain 'dominant', Malays told

Anonymous_5fb: Umno all the while has the agenda of indoctrinating the Malays to make them think that only through Umno that Malays can be dominant in politics as if they have the birthright to be in government in perpetuity.

But with the advent of Internet, more and more Malays realise that this is not so, and they have a better choice in Pakatan Rakyat. PAS fit in well to convince the Malays on this as so far, whether we like it or not, constant attacks on PKR have dented its reputation.

Docs: PAS vice-president Husam Musa has a strong point in his address that if Malay voters do not vote wisely in the upcoming general election, their dilution of political power would certainly happen.

Yes, if the majority of the Malays vote Umno/BN in the upcoming election, Malay dominance will prevail under Umno/BN. Umno's style of governance is based on corruption, cronyism, deception and stupidity as we are witnessing now.

In short under Umno, the Malays will not see a dominant Malay government as claimed by Umno but a Umno dominant government where the power is not really in the Malay people's hands but in the hands of a few selected Umno bigwigs.

Factors which the Malay community are vulnerable to will worsen under a strong Umno government, for example, the withdrawal of subsidies, rampant corruption, unchecked inflation, etc.

So the crunch time for Malay voters are fast approaching. Will the Malays vote for a unified Malaysia under Pakatan and face adversity together, or return to Umno and face economic uncertainty alone?

Multi Racial: Malaysia is a country that have majority Malays. As such, Malays will have the final say on who to be voted to power.

At the moment Umno is attempting to create unfounded fear on Malays. They may be successful in some but likely to fail for the majority. This is because there are many educated Malays who know what is going on.

With regards to what Husam said. Please don't fall into Umno racial politics. We have no problem having a majority of elected state assemblymen or women and MPs being Malay. But we have problem if whoever govern the country is racist and corrupted.

We have problem if our government are not serious to improve the quality of our education, judiciary and other government agencies.

Proarte: PAS should avoid the language of supremacy and 'dominance'. This has been a characteristic of Muslim rule throughout history when dealing with minorities and non-Muslims. It in actual fact is a hallmark of insecurity.

Democratic governance is predicated on equality and if PAS wants to be part of a civilised democracy then it should stop using the language of fascists.

Jiminy Qrikert: Malays are dominant demographically. Politically, Malays are 'dominant' via Umno's 'ketuanan Melayu' that has proven to be merely a prosthetic solution that has outlived its use-by date.

'Ketuanan Melayu' is now irrelevant to rally the Malays. The more educated Malays get, the more aware they become that it is Umno that is dominant and it is the Umno Malay elite who exploits this dominance for their own selfish gains.

Malays have been deluded by Umno's 'supremacist' conditioning into thinking they are dominant. But the reality is quite different - Malay heartland states are among the poorest.

Spanking multi-level commercial complexes for Malay traders are built, but many of these are now inner city ghettos. Kuantan is an example - the mosques are beautiful but the central business district is a disgrace.

BN states are in disrepair. Umno-BN corporatisation of non-Malay businesses destroys the business over time. This kind of Malay dominance is cancerous and implosion is inevitable. It is time that Malays choose Pakatan Rakyat.

Ruben: It is very refreshing for PAS to talk about this openly. Husam Musa is absolutely right, there are much better leaders in Pakatan than BN. Nizar Jamaluddin showed in a short time the potential to lead Perak and he even has the potential to be a PM.

Lim Guan Eng has proven without doubt despite all the dirty campaigns to bring him down, that he can lead Penang to prosperity and still provide opportunities for all. Khalid Ibrahim is doing well in Selangor.

'Tok Guru' Nik Aziz Nik Mat (our own Mahatma Gandhi) has done wonders in his simple and yet powerful way. We are better off without BN.

Quigonbond: PAS may not be running a state with Malaysian demographics in Kedah and Kelantan, but if policies are to be applied universally as far as possible, it shouldn't matter whether they have Perak or not to showcase their capacity to administer.
What PAS needs to be between now and the general election is to show Malaysians some initiatives in Kedah and Kelantan and give us a taste of its progressive leadership.

Nik V: I think Muslims and non-Muslims alike are more than willing to support any politician who is a moderate, regardless of which religion he comes from. But when that politician starts imposing his or her religion, then the whole game changes. PAS can be smarter than Umno anytime if their hearts are true.

2cts Worth: PAS has shown that it can change as opposed to Umno, which is stuck in a rut. The perception of the non-Malays at this point favours PAS. At one time, PAS was seen to be a religious fanatic and was to be shunned.

Umno is now the abhorred party. Casting fears and suspicions between the races is their main design to stay at the helm.

Anonymous_417c: The day that religion is left to the individual to profess and adhere to, is the day political parties can shed their encumbrance to religion and concentrate on governing the masses made up of different ethnicities and religions. For PAS to do so, it provides an opportunity to view Islam as a religion to be loved.

Compare this with the way Umnoputras manage religious issues through policies of compulsion, bad personal examples and archaic explanations of various issues, turning off many from Islam.- Malaysiakini
