M’sian businessman owner of RM14.6b yacht?

According to reports in the British press, an anonymous Malaysian businessman has splurged a staggering 3 billion pounds on a floating luxury.

PETALING JAYA: The yacht cost about RM14.6 billion (3 billion pounds) and is made of solid gold and platinum. It is a floating luxury – and it is owned by a Malaysian businessman, according to reports in the British dailies.

According to The Daily Mail, the lavish project, dubbed the History Supreme, used about 100,000kg of the precious metals throughout the boat – from its base to the deck, dining area, rails and anchor.

The luxurious master bedroom is adorned with platinum and features a wall made of meteoric stone and a genuine Tyrannosaurus-Rex dinosaur bone.

The man behind this super yacth, which is 30.5m (100ft) long, is Stuart Hughes, a jeweller based in Liverpool, who took three years to complete it.

Meanwhile, The Sun, another British tabloid, reported that the yacht was made for a “mystery Malaysian businessman”.

“It was probably the most mammoth task ever. I’ve covered all sorts of things in gold but this has got to be my most ambitious project yet. This will never be topped,” Hughes, 40, was quoted a saying.

He added: “He (Malaysian businessman) wanted a plane doing as well but the thing would never take off if we did.”

The designer has also used gold to customise other luxury goods like iPads and iPhones.

The yacht, built in Italy, was completed in Malaysia about two weeks ago. “I believe it will be mostly in dry dock, it won’t be used, it is just for show,” Hughes said.
