Zaid Ibrahim apologises to Anwar on eve of 901

Having left PKR in a huff in 2009, Kita president Zaid Ibrahim has chosen the eve of the sodomy trial verdict to offer his apologies to PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

"Anwar, I have said some harsh things about you. I am sorry.

"Politics sometimes brings the worst in us. I hope you will be fairly treated," he said on Twitter today.

In response, Anwar tweeted, "Thank you and continue to support the reform agenda."

Last year, Zaid had attacked Anwar scathingly at the height of a heated fight against Azmin Ali for PKR deputy presidency.

The acrimony eventually led to Zaid leaving the party to form Kita.

Zaid’s apparent change of heart was already evident last Tuesday, when the former de facto law minister also defended Anwar against blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin’s damaging comments to New Straits Times.

In a posting on his blog, Zaid said he could not fathom why Raja Petra was "cannibalising" the opposition.

He added that while he may not agree with Anwar on many fronts, it was undeniable that PKR de facto leader had strengthened the opposition movement in Malaysia.

Anwar in turn said in an interview with Malaysiakini last week, that no one, including Zaid, should be "condemned for life".
