Tee Yong issues warning over student attacks: Don't simply accuse police or BN
The gangster-like assault against students who had pitched tents at Dataran Merdeka causing several of them to suffer injuries must be sternly condemned.
In general, Malaysians are peace loving people. Both the government and the rakyat will not tolerate anyone trying to resolve a problem by resorting to violence. We will not allow it to happen again.
The political landscape of Malaysia has changed greatly since the 308 General Election. We have witnessed violent incidents stemming from political difference occur frequently. There have been cases of threats issued against politicians in addition to public demonstrations and violence unfurling rampantly throughout the country.
All problems and petitions can be resolved through negotiations. As Malaysia is a country which upholds rule of law and her citizens law abiding, we cannot allow any culture of violence and brutality to breed and grow here. The culprits must be brought to book and punished.
Full probe by police?
The position of the Royal Malaysian Police has been questioned over the said incident. I wish to suggest that in order to clarify the whole situation, a thorough investigation should be conducted by the police force so as to reveal the real mastermind behind the physical harassment.
We do not want to hear any unfair allegations hurled against the police. Neither do we want rumours being spread which will cause the rakyat to lose their trust and confidence on the government. Based on the People First concept, all related quarters should give their full cooperation with the authority so that whoever caused the trouble would be caught and action taken.
In any mature democracy, people should all try to help resolve problems faced rationally and never emotionally. In an effort to strive towards progress and year 2020, antagonists should not be allowed to get away scot free for whatever violence that they have committed.
