LGE condemns 'bastardised' version of his book

The DAP's political opponents appear to be on another "creative" effort to run down Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, if the latest counterfeit version of his new book is anything to go by.

Earlier this month, Lim - the DAP secretary general - launched the Chinese language version of his book titled 'A Hope for Penang' - containing articles which he claims is to "give people hope" on the changes Pakatan rakyat can bring to the state.

NONEAt a press conference yesterday, Lim (left)condemned the effort by unknown forces distributing a similar book nation-wide.

The only difference is that the book contain articles criticising Lim, much to the chagrin of the chief minister, who expressed his disappointment at the exercise.

For some time during the press conference, Lim was lost for words on how to truly describe the fake version, finally settling on the word "bastardisation".

"The book is what I called a bastardised version of my new book. They use a similar cover but the contents are different. The title is also the same," Lim told reporters in Komtar.

He added that the publication is being distributed for free, claiming that it was circulated from the southern region of the country - perhaps from Johor, Malacca or Negri Semblian.

"People do not have to purchase the book. It's given out for free. The purpose is to attack me. If they can distribute it for free, just imagine how rich these forces are.

"This is a nation-wide effort - starting from the south - to run me down" he said, unhappily.

Victim of media lynching

Lim, who is Bagan MP, has been consistently assaulted on various fronts - in pro-BN newspapers on his style of leadership and on his administrative decisions, especially on hill slope development.

Lim, who is Air Putih assemblyperson, has also been accused of being anti-Malay and anti-Muslim by Umno-owned Malay language dailies, Utusan Malaysia, but he has filed lawsuits against the newspaper and won twice.

Recently, several anonymous blogs have sprouted to cast aspersions on Lim's character, while attempting to link the 51 year-old politician to an alleged extra-marital affair with a former staff.

Lim has continuously refuted all the allegations, lamenting that he is a victim of "media lynching".

NONEHis family - especially his 16-year old son - was not spared either when a blog issued a baseless allegation saying he had molested his female schoolmate, who denied the accusation.

Meanwhile, Lim, who is Bagan MP, said there are comments that when people read the actual version of his book, "the content fills them with hope".
Printer, publisher unknown?
Therefore, there is a massive effort to counter the book, to dash people's hope, added Lim, who said he has yet to get a copy of the fake edition.

He lamented that those responsible had used his official portrait on the book, however, dissimilarities could be detected if one looks close enough.

"In the true edition, half of my portrait is on the book cover but the fake version uses my portrait in full (entire face) although the colors are the same," he added.

When asked if he would lodge a police report on the matter, Lim said the contentious version does not carry the identity of the printer or publisher.

"Who do we make a complain about? No one is taking responsibility for it".
