Police reports against JAIPP for 'body-snatching'

Progressive: Now ‘body snatching' is happening in Pakatan Rakyat Penang. What is the stand of the state government? What is the stand of the Penang chief minister? What is the stand of DAP, PKR and PAS?

This is a very sensitive matter and we hope it is decided with utmost care. It's a terrible violation of human and religious rights. Let the civil courts decide or install a mechanism and procedure for resolving such matters through discussion among all the various religious authorities in Penang.

If M Nagamah was a Muslim, then it is JAIPP's (Penang Islamic Affairs Department's) right to take possession of her remains. But not before a judgment is made, and not unilaterally.

The head of Islam in the state is the Agong since Penang does not have a sultan. Lim cannot issue an executive order to JAIPP. He is not conferred that power.

Daseen: Religious matters are under the state government and thus it is the responsibility of Abdul Malik Abul Kassim, who is the exco in charge of Islamic affairs, and in turn under the jurisdiction of the Penang governor.

Let see how the state government handles this. The Indians are watching this drama (we are only a minority of two million) unfolding and then we shall make the correct decision come 13^th GE.

Furthermore, there is no history about the deceased. Did she convert before she got married or after marriage?

The children should visit JAIPP office and check their mother's record. The Registry of Birth and Deaths should have the records.

Maplesyrup: If the deceased also own assets and properties, the family will stand to lose more than just her ashes, as non-Muslims can only inherit a maximum of one-third from Muslims.

Anak Kedah: Why snatch a dead body? Who benefits from it? What do bodies like JAIS (Selangor) or JAIPP (Penang) hope to achieve?

Would burying the dead body (or in this case, ashes) of a practising Hindu further the cause of Islam?

It seems that our ever dogmatic 'religious police' scours the land to snatch bodies of non-Muslims (or at least people who did not practise Islam) in their bid to create better understanding and love amongst the various races in Malaysia.

Now we have a taste of the "superiority" of Islam over other religions in Bolehland.

Hang Tuah: It's the soul that is important and it should have been important to the religious authorities when the converted person was still alive.

The religious authorities should have ensured that the convert was a practicing Muslim when she was alive and not when she is already dead and gone.

Snatching dead bodies or an urn of ashes for Muslim burial does not make the converted person a Muslim. What a waste of time, and this is causing further pain to the grieving family.
