Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption chief commissioner Ahmad Said Hamdan has apologised in open court to the Selangor menteri besar for a statement he made in 2009.
Sankara Nair (left), the lawyer representing Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the government and Ahmad Said have agreed to publish the apology in the two dailies that had reported Ahmad Said’s statement.It will have to be placed on the front page of the New Straits Times, but there is no specific requirement for Star to do likewise.
"The respondents have graciously agreed to pay RM10,000 in costs,” Sankara said outside the Kuala Lumpur High Court this morning.
The settlement was recorded before Justice Lau Bee Lan.
Ahmad Said, reading from a prepared statement, said he had no malicious intent in making the remark in 2009.
"It was made when reporters asked for comment on the matter. I also agree that, at the time the statement was made, the investigation paper had yet to be submitted to the attorney-general for action," he said.
Ahmad Said shook Khalid's hand just after issuing the apology.
Khalid said he is not seeking damages as he does not want to use taxpayers’ money in pursuing this.
