THE LIAR IS YOU, Waythamoorthy! Surendran questions Najib's Indian MOU

I refer to the statement by P Waythamoorthy on May 2, 2013 alleging that Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim had lied that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by Prime Minister Najib Razak is different from the blueprint presented to Pakatan Rakyat.

In fact, Anwar’s statement was completely accurate. The MOU signed by Najib with the Waytha-Hindraf faction is fundamentally different from that presented to PR.

Two critical issues dropped

To the shock of the Indian community, the two most pressing and urgent issues concerning the Indian community were completely dropped by Waytha’s Hindraf faction.

The two issues are racism/ discriminatory practices and death in custody. These are two issues that PR has long been committed to resolve.

In fact, PR has been at the forefront of the campaign against death in custody and discrimination/racism. Even as Waytha signed the MOU with Najib,  death in custody victim C.Sugumar’s body remained in the Serdang hospital awaiting second post-mortem.

A blank cheque to continue the murder of Indian suspects in police lock-ups

The signing of the watered down and compromised MOU with Najib by the Waytha-Hindraf  faction amounts to one of the worst betrayals in the history of the Indian community in Malaysia. Indians nationwide have publicly expressed their disgust and disapproval of the BN-Hindraf MOU.

The MOU is a blank cheque given by the Waytha-Hindraf faction to BN for discriminatory policies and deaths in custody to continue.

PR had in fact agreed in principle to the original 6 point blueprint , which was already incorporated in the Buku Jingga and PR manifesto. We call upon the Indian community to reject BN and the Waytha-Hindraf faction, and vote for PR on election day May 5, 2013.
