Vel Paari protection offer, a relief for Seri Pristana whistleblower after kidnap, death threats

The whistleblower who had exposed the case of students being made to eat in a shower room has expressed her relief after MIC strategic director S. Vel Paari had vowed to protect her and her family from further harassment.
"I am very grateful for the concern shown by him and others who have understood and supported me at this time," Guneswari Kelly told The Malaysian Insider today.
Claiming that her intentions were misunderstood, Guneswari pointed out that she had merely tried to voice her concern about the cleanliness of the shower room and the health of the students who ate there.
"I am sorry that it was blown out of proportion by so many parties. I did not have an ulterior motive for posting that picture," she added.
She, however, refused to comment on whether or not she had lodged a police report over the threats she had received.
"I am unwell now and under pressure. Please understand," she said.
In a previous report, Guneswari, whose daughter attends SK Seri Pristana, told The Malaysian Insider that she had been receiving threats to both their lives, which includes kidnapping and locking up both herself and her daughter.
She had earlier posted a picture of non-Muslim students being made to eat in the shower room, which went viral. The photo sparked a huge outcry among parents and the public, forcing the Education Ministry to step in to resolve the issue.
Many argued that the issue was not racial but was putting the health of the students at risk by making them eat in an unhygenic location.
Meanwhile, Vel Paari is threatening to publish the phone numbers of the people who have called up Guneswari to harass and threaten her.
The party's strategic director said he has spoken to the woman and asked her to hand him the numbers.
"I will advertise the phone numbers in Tamil Nesan, which enjoys a daily readership of 150,000.
"We'll see how they would like being harassed and threatened," he added.
The MIC man lashed out at the school teachers and authorities, revealing that Guneswari's daughter was being victimised in school by her teachers since the issue blew up earlier this week.
"They, apparently, have been telling the child that she has brought disrespect to the school and is being picked on.
"I have advised the mother to wait it out for a little while to see if the abuses persists and if it does, I will get the ministry involved and call for action to be taken against the teachers.
He pointed out that the teachers were not being professional in the matter and were causing psychological distress to the student who had done nothing wrong.
"This is a form of bullying and action must be taken against these people for causing so much pain to the same girl whom they were supposed to educate.
"Instead of getting angry that students are eating in an unsanitary place, people are hurling abuses and threats at both mother and daughter.
"It is unacceptable," Vel Paari said.
