Who wants to assassinate Sanjeevan?

Are the Home Ministry and police involved in the attempt on whistleblower R Sri Sanjeevan's life?

This is the question posed by Malaysian Hindu Movement president S Sanjay.

Speaking to Malaysiakini, Sanjay expressed alarm over the gunning down of the crime watchdog MyWatch chairperson on Saturday.

"I cannot help but wonder if this is the latest method employed to silence those who expose wrongdoings of people in power.

"I know this is a serious allegation but the public cannot help but form such a perception," he said.

NONE"We cannot blame the public because the police and Home Ministry suffer from a serious crisis of confidence.

"Many incidents involving the police have created the impression that the men in blue would go to any extent to keep their critics from spilling the beans," he added.

However, Sanjay welcomed inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar's pledge to leave no stone unturned in their probe.

Khalid was responding to his predecessor, Musa Hasan (above, left), who linked the shooting to rogue cops.

Musa is also the patron of MyWatch.

"I hope Khalid meant his word and was not playing to the gallery," said Sanjay.

"This country would be in serious trouble of it reaches a point where we cannot distinguish the police from criminals," he added.

'Set up RCI'

Sanjay urged the government to set up a royal commission of inquiry into the shooting.

He said the commission should also probe the recent spate of shootings involving Indian Malaysians.

"These incidents are often blamed on gang rivalry but nobody is ever arrested. Something is amiss here. Are these summary executions by the police?" he asked.

NONESanjeevan (right), who had exposed corruption in the police force, was shot in Bahau, Negri Sembilan, by two motorcyclists while he was driving.

The 29-year-old PKR politician is said to be in stable condition.
Sanjeevan had received death threats since last January and was assaulted in Kuala Lumpur in April.

Ominously, Sanjeevan then said that he had also received a call allegedly from a police officer from the Jempol police station, claiming that some gangs were ready to "kill" him.
