Kit Siang: DAP ready for public inquiry on CEC election

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang said his party is ready to hold a public inquiry over allegations of impropriety during its central executive committee (CEC) election last year.

However, Lim queried if the Registrar of Societies (ROS) was prepared to do the same to establish the facts on the matter.

"DAP is prepared to have a public inquiry to debunk all the lies and falsehoods concocted by the Umno/BN 'Demonise and Destroy DAP' squad.

"But is the ROS prepared to have such a public inquiry to establish the real truth," he said in a statement today.

Lim (right), who is DAP advisor, was responding to ROS' instruction for DAP to hold a re-election of its CEC. It has refused to provide a reason or legal provision for the decision.

However, Home Minister Zahid Hamidi had pointed to a booklet titled ‘The Equity Report (CEC Election Fraud)' written by one "Father Augustus Chen" that alleged fraud in the DAP CEC election.

Lim said that the so called author has two more days left to surface after DAP issued a seven-day ultimatum for the author to come forward and prove that he is not a phantom.

"It is just impossible and unthinkable that there could be a genuine person who could allow his name to be used for such a scurrilous publication but is afraid to step forward to identify himself.

"Whoever steps forward to claim authorship of the scurrilous publication "The Equity Report" must not only be prepared to face multiple mega-defamation suits but criminal proceedings as well for the mountain of malicious lies in the booklet," said the Gelang Patah MP.

Lim warned that if the government-linked media continues to attack DAP based on the booklet's claims despite the author refusing to surface, legal proceedings would also be initiated against them.
