Kit Siang: IGP is twisting and distorting Tony’s tweets

DAP veteran laments the over-reaction by Khalid Abu Bakar over Tony Pua's tweet and claims the IGP's own are more seditious and malicious.
lim-kit-siang_khalid_tony-pua_300KUALA LUMPUR: DAP’s Lim Kit Siang today questioned the intelligence quotient (IQ) of Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Khalid Abu Bakar, when a tweet by Petaling Jaya Utara MP, Tony Pua yesterday was misconstrued as something derogatory about the nation’s royal Malay rulers.
Speaking to media outside the Dewan Rakyat, the Gelang Patah MP said, “What Tony (Pua) tweeted, is not tasteful but it is no way a crime.
Lim was referring to the “royal my foot” tweet put out by Pua which he later deleted, and which according to Lim even school children would not interpret as something targeted towards the royal Malay rulers of Malaysia.
“The students, all would say no. Is the IGP’s IQ lower than school children’s? Nobody would read ‘royal my foot,’ as an attack on royalty. It’s an attack on the Royal Malaysian Police, especially the IGP.
“If so, why is the IGP displaying such a low IQ? He is not fit to be an IGP.”
He also accused the IGP of “twisting and distorting” the original meaning of the tweet, adding that the IGP’s tweet in response to Pua’s was even more irresponsible, malicious and even seditious.
“We expect such a tweet from UMNO cyber troopers. We don’t expect such a tweet from the IGP,” Lim said and called on Khalid to stop his war against Pakatan Rakyat while urging him to also stop being “twitter-trigger happy”.
“It’s not a compliment. It’s leading him astray,” quipped Lim.
Earlier, Pua denied that his tweet was directed towards the Malay rulers of Malaysia and decided to erase his tweet when it became apparent that IGP Khalid did not understand its true implications.
“Those who understand English will understand the meaning of “royal, my foot,” said Pua.
In reacting to Pua’s tweet yesterday, the IGP via twitter said that Pua would be investigated for his original tweet, but up until 2pm this afternoon, Pua had not received any notification from the police.
He however said he was willing to fully co-operate with the police to explain the real intent of his tweet.
