SEXIST & 'MURDEROUS': It's BUNG who brought shame to Parliament, not Zuraida - analyst
PETALING JAYA - The rantings of Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar in Parliament yesterday brought shame on himself and the august house, said Wan Saiful Wan Jan of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas).
In a statement today, the chief executive said, “Datuk Bung Moktar’s attitude in parliament is embarrassing and unparliamentary.”
He was commenting on the MP’s outburst over a protest staged at his private residence that was led by Zuraida Kamaruddin, the MP for Ampang and some 20 to 30 of her supporters.
While conceding that Bung’s outrage was “valid” Wan Saiful said it was nonetheless “unbecoming of a cultured man”, and added, “I cannot believe the Speaker allowed him to continue ranting and not boot him out.”
He said the Dewan Rakyat was an august house and that Umno and all other political parties had best “think carefully” about the quality of the parliamentarians that they put in there.
He added, “The attitude of this Umno MP brings shame to himself and to the house.”
In his outburst, Bung shouted at Opposition MP Hee Loy Sian, calling him the derogatory term “bangsat,” as well as challenging him to, “take it outside” when the latter appealed for him to calm down. He also repeatedly shouted at him to “shut up”.
Apart from these harsh words, Bung also said it was a good thing he was not present during the protest itself as he may have hurt someone there. - FMT
