KUALA LUMPUR: A public postcard campaign for Teoh Beng Hock has been launched to pressure the government to bring those responsible for his death to justice.
The campaign is one of several activities planned to mark the sixth anniversary of his death on July 15, Malaysiakini reported.
Teoh was found dead on a rooftop below the Selangor MACC headquarters in 2009  after being questioned overnight about his work as an aide to then Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah.
Campaign organisers plan to sell packs of 10 postcards to be signed and mailed to the home minister, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to exert pressure on the ministry and the police force to complete the investigation which began in September.
The investigation was ordered by the Court of Appeal in a case brought by Teoh’s family in which the court ruled out suicide as the cause of his death. In 2009, a royal commission of inquiry implicated Selangor MACC officers Hishamuddin Hashim, Arman Alies and Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus as being responsible for his death through aggressive interrogation.
The MACC has admitted negligence and agreed to pay compensation but the Teoh Beng Hock Trust for Democracy and Teoh’s family were not satisfied with compensation alone, said campaign organiser Ng Seow Chen.
She said Teoh was a victim of political persecution, and the campaign demanded action from the government for an apology, the truth, compensation, punishment, and policy reform.
A documentary film about Teoh’s death, entitled Jatuh, will be screened on the night of July 14, and a memorial service held on the night of July 25.
Community activities would also be held in Puchong to create awareness about democracy.
