Umno's Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today called former Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah "crazy" for questioning the show cause letter issued to him for attending a dialogue involving opposition parties.
The Umno secretary-general said the party has received Saifuddin's reply, which has been given to the party's lawyer and will also be forwarded to Umno's disciplinary board.
"He replied and he questioned me. We question him, and he questions us, isn't that crazy?
Saifuddin, who was censured for attending the September 22 roundtable dialogue by opposition parties and civil society organisations, recently said he wanted Umno to clarify the show cause letter given to him.
In a recent interview with The Star, Saifuddin said he sent two letters, one from a lawyer acting for the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) Foundation that he heads, and another from himself.
Saifuddin said the show-cause letter issued by Umno was vague, and questioned whether it was directed at him as GMM CEO or in his capacity as party member, and also why the letter had been issued by the party headquarters instead of the disciplinary board.
He said he had been at the meeting in his capacity as chairman of another non-governmental organisation, Akademi Belia.
The reply by GMM's lawyer was to ask Umno to clarify if the non-governmental organisation would also be involved in disciplinary action to be taken by the party.
Tengku Adnan previously said Saifuddin tarnished the image of the ruling Malay party for attending the roundtable discussion.
