Jamal: Death threats against Bersih 'fabricated', not from us

Show more reactions

Red-shirt leader Jamal Md Yunos has dismissed death threats made against leaders of pro-electoral reforms group Bersih, and their family members, as pure fabrication, distancing his group from what he said were mere theatrics.
"This is mere fabrication by them. Their struggle is based purely on lies and slander. So it is not impossible that this was made up by them to court sympathy from their supporters," Jamal told Malaysiakini.
He said that if Bersih was truly sincere about being against such threats, their supporters would not have organised a mock Chinese funeral for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's spouse, Rosmah Mansor.
Jamal argued that they should have lodged police reports on that occasion too, and not only now when they were the ones being threatened.
"This is all fabrication and nonsensical lies," he stressed.
Asked to clarify if his group has anything to do with the threats, Jamal insisted that the red-shirts had nothing to do with such things.
"We are not like that. The red-shirts came into being because of the stink made by the yellow-movement (Bersih) with their filth and slander. That is why we came to be, but we will not do something like this (death threats)," he explained.
Jamal again accused Bersih of fabricating the death threats as a false flag operation to drum up support and sympathy, as their roadshow which has been going on for several weeks, failed to draw public support except for small groups of supporters and their own members.
Dead and gone
Asked what if the death threats were real, Jamal said that whatever the case, Bersih should have been long dead and gone, though he did not indicate if he meant this figuratively or literally.
"They should have died long ago and today, such a group shouldn't exist in Malaysia
"A group like this, with their beliefs, with their methods, shouldn't exist and people like these should not exist in our multiracial country, which has been peaceful since Merdeka until now.
"Suddenly the group comes forward today, supposedly threatened by IS and what not. I have already said that this group has been infiltrated by IS and Daesh. I have sent evidence and proof to the cops, let them investigate further.
"So, allegations that I am involved are done with bad intentions," asserted Jamal.

Asked about Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi saying that there was no verifiable information on this, Jamal said he had said all he needed to, told all he knew of the matter to the police, and would not comment further on it.
Jamal had previously issued threats against the electoral reform movement, saying that the red-shirts were ready for all eventualities as they will be there to face off against Bersih if they continue their plans to hold the Bersih 5 rally on Nov 19, preceded by nationwide convoys.
The red-shirts and their leader had made good that particular warning by clashing with Bersih convoys in several locations across the nation in the last few weeks. -Mkini
