JHO LOW SAILS ALONG STRAITS OF MALACCA IN HIS SUPER-YACHT , CLOSE BY TO BOSS NAJIB & AS IGP CLOSES AN EYE

The vessel speculated to belong to tycoon Jho Low has been sighted sailing up the Straits of Malacca, according to ship tracking website Marinetraffic.com.

As of 1.30pm today, the website showed the Cayman Islands-flagged superyacht Equanimity cruising just over 16 kilometres off the beaches of Port Dickson, heading northwest at a speed of 11.7 knots.

The ship’s previous known stop was in Hong Kong waters, which it departed on Oct 6, according to checks by Malaysiakini on Marinetraffic.com’s website.

According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) in August, Equanimity was understood to be undergoing maintenance or repair work while it was in Hong Kong.

However, the Hong Kong-based daily said dock officials had declined to comment on this, citing a confidentiality agreement.

The daily added that there had been speculation that the superyacht was to be sold, but no one was willing to talk about it.

Low is an associate of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and was involved in the formation of 1MDB.

The US Department of Justice alleges that he was among those who had benefited from the supposed misappropriation of 1MDB funds, including by using the funds to purchase stakes in hotels and to acquire artworks.

Low’s lawyers were previously reported as saying that Equanimity does not belong to him.
Despite this, the SCMP had noted that the superyacht appeared to be at his disposal, on which he had held lavish birthday parties with celebrities.

According to reports, the US$165 million Equanimity was built by Oceanco and delivered in June 2014. The superyacht is made of steel with an aluminium superstructure.

The vessel can accommodate 26 guests in nine staterooms and has a crew of 28. Equanimity’s features include a spa and beach club, a beauty salon, a gym, a sauna, a Turkish bath and a large pool.

The interior has oriental inspired themes, using such material as wenge, bamboo and gold lead.
