PETALING JAYA – The RM8.7 billion allocation under the Budget 2017 for development of major programmes and projects for the police will enhance the effectiveness of crime prevention nationwide, said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
He said the allocation for the police force will not just improve their welfare but also their work rate.
“We thank the government for the allocation and of course we understand the country’s financial position at the moment.
“We will manage the allocations wisely and spend it to benefit the Rakyat,” he told theSun when contacted.
Khalid said the additional RM60 million allocation is crucial for crime prevention operations and Motorcycle Patrol Unit.
“The allocations especially for the crime prevention in cities including the omnipresence is significant this time,” he added.
Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak in his Budget 2017 said the police force has been given a RM8.7billion allocation, including a RM12.8billion allocation for the Home Ministry.
Najib added the Government will also provide RM80 million to more than 200,000 People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) members.
Meanwhile, about RM15.1 billion was allocated for the Defence Ministry.
Of the amount, RM1.8 billion is for defence asset maintenance – armed Forces would be equipped with patrol vessels and armoured vehicles.
Najib added that a Sea Basing at the East Coast of Sabah waters and Helicopter Forward Operating Base will be created, while the armed forces will also build and upgrade roads under the Jiwa Murni Programme with an allocation of RM114 million in the interior of Sarawak.
