Judge refuses to grant accused bail even though the complainant had withdrawn her police report.
KUALA LUMPUR – A foreign student claimed trial at the Sessions Court here today for allegedly raping and sodomising a woman.
Libyan student Mahmoud Milad Ahmed Ganaw was accused of attacking a 29-year-old secretary at the Setia Sky Residences on Jalan Raja Muda Aziz, here, on October 22.
Mahmoud faces a jail term of up to 20 years with whipping if found guilty.
Deputy public prosecutor Liyana Mohd Radzi urged the court not to allow the business administration student bail as the offence was serious.
In arguing for bail, Mahmoud’s lawyer K Ramalingam told the court the complainant had withdrawn her police report.
Sessions Court judge M Kunasundary, however, did not grant bail and fixed the next mention date on November 29.
