Police summon Muhyiddin over alleged secrets leak

The police have summoned former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin to record his statement over allegations of leaking cabinet secrets while debating Budget 2017 at the Dewan Rakyat last week.
Muhyiddin said the exact date of his interview with cops has not yet been finalised but believed that it will be sometime next week.
"They (cops) did call. But the schedule has not been set (for me to have my statement recorded). They did give a date but after negotiations they relented to wait for next week. I don't know (when).
"They did ask me to go to Bukit Aman," he told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby today.
Muhyiddin is among three ex-cabinet ministers summoned by Bukit Aman over allegations that they leaked cabinet secrets.
"When I am called, I will explain. Not here in Parliament," he said.
Other than Muhyiddin, former finance minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah was also called in by police to have his statement recorded yesterday.
However Bukit Aman said that the ex-minister's statement will be recorded next week.
Another ex-minister Mohd Shafie Apdal is also expected to be called in by the police.
Investigations against the trio were opened under the Official Secrets Act 1972 for allegedly leaking government secrets about state investment arm 1MDB.

Opposition leader Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had said that investigations against Husni goes against constitutional immunity accorded to MPs when speaking in the House.
She argued that Article 63(2) of the Federal Constitution stipulates that no legal proceedings can be brought to bear against those speaking in Parliament or any of its committees.
Wan Azizah added that while there are exceptions to parliamentary immunity, these were only for Sedition Act 1948 offences and laws regarding the special positions of the national language, the Malays and the Malay rulers.- Mkini
