Rafizi dares Umno's Shahrizat to contest in Pandan

Pandan MP Mohd Rafizi Ramli has challenged Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to contest in his constituency in the next general election.

Of all the reactions that followed his conviction under the Official Secrets Act 1972 (OSA) on Monday, Rafizi said, the one that he couldn’t stand is by Shahrizat, who is reported to have said that he deserved the ‘harshest treatment’ under the law.

“If there are reporters here, I’d like the reporters to write in the news tomorrow that: Chances are, I won’t be able to contest in Pandan after this. So, Shahrizat need not worry, the new candidate won’t be asking about cows in the coming election.”
This issue on cows was made by Rafizi in reference to the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) scandal.

“If Shahrizat is so mighty, I’d like to ask and I’d like to invite Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil - the women’s wing chief of Umno - to come and contest in Pandan in the next general election.

“I think Pandan voters know what to do. Not only that we will slay the cows, we will slay Shahrizat (photo) along with the cows,” Rafizi told his constituents during a ceramah in Kampung Cheras Baru last night.

Rafizi was convicted of two charges under the OSA and sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment on each charge on Monday, which is to be served consecutively.

He is now out on bail pending the appeal process. While he remains an MP for the time being, he would not qualify to contest in an election while the process is ongoing.

Rafizi had played a central role in exposing the NFC scandal, which is centred on Shahrizat’s family, especially National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd director Mohamad Salleh Ismail, who is also Shahrizat’s husband. The scandal is not related to the OSA charges against Rafizi.

The company was given a RM250 million soft loan for a cattle-rearing project, but Rafizi claimed that it had been used for the benefit of Salleh’s family and for purchasing properties instead.

Following this, Salleh had been charged with four counts of criminal breach of trust, but the charges were later dropped.

Meanwhile, on Oct 31, Rafizi lost a defamation suit brought by Salleh on Rafizi’s allegation that Salleh had used the loans as leverage to purchase eight properties.

At this talk last night, Rafizi also told the audience that he is mulling to sue BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

This is over Rahman’s claim that Rafizi wanted to be jailed in order to be seen as a political martyr.

Rafizi countered that no one who had been to a police lock-up facility or a prison would want to return there, because of the ‘unliveable’ conditions.

“One cell; eight to 10 people lying around. The toilet is there, and there is where you urinate and defecate. That’s also the place where you pray. No one, especially me, would want to go to jail just to be a hero.

“So we will look into Rahman Dahlan’s statement. I am going to jail anyway, so I’d have to sue a lot of people so I can come out to attend hearings.
