Rally still on despite Maria's arrest, vows Bersih

Bersih deputy chairperson Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari has vowed that Bersih 5 rally will go on despite the arrest of its leader Maria Chin Abdullah.
"Yes, we will go on as schedule," he told Malaysiakini this evening.
Earlier today, Maria and the electoral watchdog’s secretariat secretary Mandeep Singh were arrested under Section 124C of Penal Code.
Shahrul said he would lead the Bersih protesters at Masjid Negara while former Bersih chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan will replace Maria at Dataran Maybank in Jalan Bangsar.
"Ambiga will be there," he said, adding that the Bersih steering committee will lead the mass rally.
Meanwhile, Ambiga confirmed that she will only lead the rally in Bangsar if Maria could not attend.
She hopes police will release Maria and Mandeep tonight.
Earlier, a police team from Bukit Aman as well as officers from the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SMM) raided the Bersih office in Petaling Jaya at about 3pm.

The raid and arrests came following inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar pronouncing both Bersih rally and red shirt rally as illegal assemblies.
Beside KL, Bersih plans to hold its rallies in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu tomorrow.
Clashes are expected to occur as the red-shirts have vowed to be wherever the "yellow shirts" are.- Mkini
