Two day remand for 4 lawmakers, activist



Police have secured a two day remand order to further detain four opposition members and an activists picked up during Bersih 5 crackdown.
They are Bersih steering committee member Hishammuddin Rais, Batu MP Tian Chua, Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, Seremban MP Anthony Loke and Pasir Pinji state assemblyperson Howard Lee.
Chua and Zuraida are both PKR politicians while Loke and Lee are from DAP.
Lawyer Melissa Sasidaran, who is representing Chua, Zuraida and Hishammudin, said the trio were probed under Section 145 and 511 of the Penal Code.
Section 147 relates to rioting while Section 511 provides punishment for attempting to commit the said crime.

"They will be held in lock up in Jinjang. They are in high spirits and will continue to fight their unjust arrest and detention," she said when contacted.
Lee while probed under the same two laws while Loke was investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 over his speech at the Pakatan Harapan national convention last week, said their lawyer Gobind Singh Deo.
Gobind said Lee will be held at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters while Loke will be held at the Seremban police lock up.
