PETALING JAYA: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has assured stakeholders that the Railway Network Access Agreement (RNAA) has yet to be signed as it is looking at a win-win situation.
Sources told FMT that KTMB is still in the midst of looking into the details of the agreement.
“We haven’t signed any documents or agreed on any details yet. We are in the midst of fine-tuning the agreement.”
The RNAA is an agreement between the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC), which is under the transport ministry, and KTMB, the railway operator.
According to Railwaymen Union of Malaysia (RUM) president Abdul Razak Md Hassan, the agreement could result in 4,000 of its workers losing their jobs.
Razak told FMT he plans to stop the agreement before it is signed next year.
“The agreement was supposed to be signed on Dec 23, but when I contacted the transport ministry, it said it was not ready. We want the transport ministry to stop this nonsense.”
Razak is claiming the agreement was mooted by the ministry and once concluded, it will allow RAC to intervene in the operations of KTMB.
“Before this, the RAC was only tasked with managing the assets of KTMB. With this agreement, RAC will be able to outsource KTMB projects.
“This includes the repairs and maintenance of the railway lines and the locomotives.”
Razak said if the agreement goes ahead, he would hold a peaceful protest in front of the ministry next year.
