After handing out free petrol, MP wants FT Ministry dissolved

DAP lawmaker Lim Lip Eng called for the Federal Territories Ministry to be dissolved after its head Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor made an unpopular proposal to ban 'kapcai' motorcycles in the city centre.
In an act of defiance, Lim also distributed free petrol to users of 'kapcai' motorcycles (50cc to 150cc) at a petrol station in Segambut.
Lim said in the interest of the poor, who rely heavily on the 'kapcai' for transport, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) should be allowed to call the shots.
"If (you) want to help the lower income group, then I suggest the ministry be dissolved.
"There are two bosses (in Kuala Lumpur) and the people do not know whose instruction they should listen to - the minister's or the mayor's.
"This is a waste of public funds and overlapping of duties. The federal territories minister and officials may interfere with the decisions made by DBKL," Lim told Malaysiakini.
Lim said he distributed RM5,000 worth of petrol, free, to some 1,000 motorcyclists. He forked out the money from his own pocket.

"Pakatan Harpan cares about the citizens, especially the low-income 'kapcai' riders," he said.
Lim said the move was also a symbolic protest against Tengku Adnan's proposal.
The DAP lawmaker also denied that giving out free petrol was a form of bribery.
This was a small token given by Harapan in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration which falls at the end of this month, he explained.
"Bribery happens when a person gives you money and you give something in exchange, and both are happy. Now, Harapan gives free (petrol) in return only for a handshake and 'thank you'," Lim said.-Mkini
