Assault on trucker: Five arrests, includes a woman

Five individuals, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with an assault on a truck driver at a condominium in Ampang, Selangor on Jan 14.
Selangor deputy police chief Mohamad Fuad Abdul Latiff said that police have also identified one or two other individuals allegedly involved in the incident.
"That incident happened at the spur of the moment. For your information we have arrested five people and applied for remand today," Mohamad Fuad told reporters in Petaling Jaya today.
He said suspects were picked up from Kepong, Kajang and Negeri Sembilan between late last night to sometime early this morning.
"We are still looking for one or two people and a notice have been issued to ask them to surrender.
"We know who their friends are. Don't wait until we go to their houses (to arrest them)," he said while cautioning the public to not take matters into their own hands.
There was no woman depicted in the video of the incident, which has been widely spread over the internet.
When asked on the role of the female detainee in the incident, Mohamad Fuad said this was still under investigation and assured that no one will be victimised in the process.
More road accidents
A video clip of the incident depicted the truck driver being pinned down and beaten by a man. Following this, several more men joined in the assault.
The truck driver had allegedly reversed his vehicle onto a luxury car by accident, resulting in an altercation.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Fuad said the police after "baffled" by the increasing number of road accidents during festive seasons over the past three years throughout the country.

"In 2014 there were 4,776 cases and 29 deaths; in 2015 there were 4,999 cases and 32 deaths; and last year there were 5,247 cases and 42 deaths," he said citing statistics for cases in Selangor alone.
Mohamad Fuad's statistics was from the police's Ops Selamat campaign which is held during the Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri seasons.
He said it was "baffling and illogical" why there are more road accidents despite heightened police presence, adding that Selangor traffic police contingent have been instructed to re-look their strategies.- Mkini
