Kelantan flood victims increase to 9,220

Another 3,835 flood evacuees reported in Terengganu as of 10pm tonight.
banjirKOTA BHARU: The number of flood victims in Kelantan increased to 9,220 people (2,587 families) as at 8pm, from 7,036 people (2,030 families) three hours earlier.
Another 3,835 flood evacuees were reported in Terengganu as of 10pm tonight by the Civil Defence Force. This was an increase from the 2,680 people this afternoon.
According to the Kelantan Social Welfare Department, through its Infobanjir application, all the victims in the state were being accommodated at 57 evacuation centres in seven districts.
A total of 3,551 victims (955 families) are at 19 flood evacuation centres in Kota Bharu and 1,980 people (549 families) are at 10 flood evacuation centres in Pasir Puteh.
A total of 22 flood evacuation centres have been opened in Pasir Mas to accommodate 1,883 people (579 families), while 1,075 flood victims (307 families) are at two relief centres in Tanah Merah.
A total of 449 flood evacuees (117 families) are at a relief centre in Bachok, 193 people (55 families) are at three evacuation centres in Machang and 89 people (25 families) are at two relief centres in Tanah Merah.
Meanwhile, the portal ebanjir.kelantan.gov.my,, stated that the water level at Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang remained at 10.11 metres as at 8pm, but still above the warning level of 9 metres.
The water level at other main rivers is still normal.
No casualty in the floods has been reported yet.
The floods in Terengganu have yet to show signs of returning to normalcy with more people being evacuated.
Terengganu Civil Defence Force director Lieutenant Colonel Che Adam A Rahman said as of 10pm, 1,097 families affected by the floods had been evacuated to 79 relief centres in four districts.
“The district worst affected is Besut, which recorded 1,693 flood victims (427 families) at 34 evacuation centres.
“In Setiu, two new evacuation centres have been opened, bringing the total to 23 in the district, to accommodate 940 people (251 families), from 872 people (227 families) this afternoon,” he said in a statement.
In Hulu Terengganu, the number of flood victims increased drastically from 493 people (152 families) in the afternoon, to 1,085 people (387 families) tonight.
Eight new evacuation centres have been opened in Hulu Terengganu to accommodate the increase in evacuees, bringing the total to 16 centres tonight.
In Kemaman, the number of flood victims increased slightly to 117 people (32 families) and they are being accommodated at five relief centres.
Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department, through its website publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my reported that the water in seven rivers in five districts has exceeded the danger level tonight.
Two of the rivers are in Hulu Terengganu, namely Sungai Berang in Kampung Menerong, which recorded a reading of 25.24m (danger level is 24.50m) and Sungai Telemong in Kuala Ping, at 21.34m (danger level is 20m).
Two rivers in Setiu, namely Sungai Nerus in Kampung Langkap rose to 22.23m (danger level is 21.50m) and Sungai Chalok at Jambatan Chalok is at 8.46m (danger level is 8.40m).
The other rivers, Sungai Tebak at Jambatan Tebak, Kemaman, recorded a reading of 19.71m (danger level is 18.50m), Sungai Dungun at Kuala Jengai is at 22.67m (danger level is 21m) and Sungai Besut at Jambatan Keruak rose to 35.82m (danger level is 35m). -FMT
