KEMABONG: The recent revelation by Dr Mahathir Mohamad that DAP wants the post of Deputy Prime Minister if the opposition wins the 14th General Election (GE14) is significant as it will determine the future of the country, Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak has said.
He said this was because the electorate now had a “political choice” for GE14.
“If they want Lim Kit Siang to be Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance then they can choose DAP-led Pakatan” in the next election.
“In fact, Tun Dr Mahathir (chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) made a significant revelation, as far as politics is concerned, on Jan 17 this year.
“Tun Dr Mahathir indirectly agreed with (former DAP vice-president) Tunku Aziz’s allegation that Lim Kit Siang will be the next Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister if Pakatan wins the 14th general election,” he said.
Salleh told this to reporters after launching a community event near here today.
On Wednesday, Dr Mahathir was reported to have said that the DAP had requested for its party leader to take the post of deputy prime minister should the opposition win the next general election.
Earlier, in his speech, Salleh also described Dr Mahathir as a U-Turn leader as he had frequently changed his stand and views on important issues.
Salleh said: “Before this, he was with us (Umno/Barisan Nasional) and we respect him as he had contributed to the country.
“But now, Tun Dr Mahathir is with the opposition and is out to destroy Umno… we cannot allow this to happen.”
Yesterday, Prime Minister Najib Razak said he felt that Mahathir made no sense in designating Lim Kit Siang as a deputy prime minister candidate, after having previously labelled the politician ‘’a racist’’. -Mkini
