PETALING JAYA: There’s no need for anyone to “look out” for the VVIP owner of a Mercedes-Benz, after the car became a focal point of an assault of a lorry driver earlier this week, says the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Speaking to FMT, IGP Khalid Abu Bakar also said there’s no need for anyone to share or post the number of the silver Mercedes-Benz online.
He was commenting on social media posts of netizens who had taken pictures of “warnings” to the owner of the Mercedes-Benz.
In their warnings, some of the netizens posted the Mercedes-Benz’s vehicle registration number with messages that they were “waiting” for the car to pass their respective areas.
This came in the wake of the brutal attack of a lorry driver, who had accidentally reversed into the Mercedes-Benz earlier this week. The incident led to a group of men attacking the lorry driver.
The Mercedes-Benz is registered to a “Datuk”, but the police have since said that the VVIP was not involved in the incident.
“I warn the public against taking matters into their own hands,” Khalid told FMT, adding the police were already taking the necessary action.
“Furthermore, the VVIP is not involved so there is no reason for anyone to look out for him or post his vehicle registration number on social media.”
Earlier today, it was reported that all the main suspects involved in the assault have been arrested.
In a brief statement, Selangor police said the suspects – four males and one female – were arrested today.
The incident, which took place at a condominium in Ampang, made the public angry after a video of the assault went viral. -Mkini
