viral-telcotowerPETALING JAYA: Two men swinging in harnesses from a communications tower in Bukit Chendering in Kuala Terengganu are the latest to contribute to the spate of local daredevil exploits for the camera and social media.
The two men, who look to be in their 20s, were dangling about 500m from the ground in the video posted on YouTube.
The Star Online reported that police were investigating the duo, who were also believed to have trespassed into the Bukit Chendering communications tower enclosure.
Terengganu police chief Deputy Comm Rosli Ab Rahman advised the pair to surrender themselves to the police.
“We are investigating the matter and if this really happened in our state then we are calling on those young men to surrender themselves before we go after them,” he said.
Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Jailani Johari expressed concern at the men’s stunt, promising an investigation to ascertain the video’s authenticity and the people behind it.
“We advise these young men to stop risking their lives over some dangerous stunt as it only endangers themselves and others,” he said.
Last week, a group of eight young men and women scaled the iconic Ipoh sign, a feat they recorded on video and posted on Youtube. They have since apologised for it.
On Dec 31, a wefie of a motorcyclist standing on the guardrail of the Penang Bridge while his friends posed on the emergency lane made the rounds on Facebook. The group was rebuked by netizens for playing with fire, but were not investigated by police, who said the act, although dangerous, was not criminal. -FMT
