Paulsen: Why file police report against Ku Nan?

He says politicians say a lot of things and opposition should just respond to it instead of seeking police interference.

PETALING JAYA: Opposition leaders should show maturity in their responses to provocation, especially from BN politicians, says lawyer Eric Paulsen.
Politicians, he said, were expected to make lots of claims and it was the job of the opposition to respond, preferably in a sensible and rational manner.
Paulsen was commenting on DAP MP Lim Lip Eng’s police report against Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor over his claim that the DAP-led Penang government was neglecting Malays in the state.
“It was a mere comment that should be responded to by those who disagreed with Ku Nan. What has that got to do with the police?”
He said DAP did not have to behave like Umno.
“Just because it is common for Umno to make anything that is remotely contentious seditious or requiring police interference does not mean that opposition politicians have to follow suit.”
Lim filed the report against Tengku Adnan today at Dang Wangi police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
In response, Tengku Adnan told Bernama he was prepared to be questioned by police.
He said police had contacted him for his statement.
Tengku Adnan had recently come under fire for proposing to turn Penang into a federal territory.
He later explained that his proposal was prompted by the Penang government’s alleged neglect of the Malays in the state. He also said as a federal territory, Penang would gain more affordable housing.
The minister also suggested expanding the federal territories to include Langkawi in Kedah, parts of Malacca and Tioman in Pahang. -FMT
