Selangor hauls up BN rep for comments on Azmin's administration

Batang Kali assemblyperson Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan appeared before the Selangor rights and privileges committee today over remarks made against Menteri Besar Azmin Ali's administration.
This is over the BN representative's remark during the state legislative assembly sitting last Nov 1 accusing members of Azmin's administration of not recognising the role of the constitutional royalty.
The closed-door hearing at the state secretariat building lasted approximately an hour.
At a press conference after the hearing, Mat Nadzari told the media he had only referred to DAP.
“My statement referred only to DAP and not to any particular assemblyperson, but still the committee took action against me,” he said.
During the hearing the BN assemblyperson was asked to explain his statement that “certain components in Azmin's administration wanted to establish the concept of 'social democracy in Malaysia'.”
Mat Nadzari's lawyer Kamarudin Ahmad said he will consider taking the matter up to the High Court.
He referred to article 36(6) of the state standing orders, which states an assemblyperson cannot issue assumptions about another member of the assembly.
The lawyer said his client had not referred to any particular assemblyperson but to DAP, therefore he cannot be deemed to have contravened the standing order.
“I don't understand why the state legislature wants to haul my client up.
“The state legislature is acting outside its powers and we may take the matter up to the High Court,” said the lawyer.
Yeoh: Decision will be debated
Meanwhile at a separate press conference, speaker Hannah Yeoh said she welcomed the matter being brought before the court.
"It is up to (Mat Nadzari). Anyone is free to take whomever they wish to court.
"However I wish to comment, proceedings in the state assembly cannot be challenged in court," she said.
"This is because whatever takes place in the Dewan is an internal matter that is governed by the standing orders, and has immunity."

She said the committee will meet again on February 21 to discuss Mat Nadzari's case.
"Whether there is an offence or not, the committee will decide.
"But whatever decision we arrive at, it won't be done just like that but will be tabled at the coming state assembly sitting in March.
"It will be debated in the Selangor assembly. Our decision will not necessarily be passed at the assembly," she said.- Mkini
