The police have completed their probe into 1MDB, and have submitted the investigation papers to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
“(We completed the investigation) some time ago,” inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
He was commenting on attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali’s orders for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to wrap up their probe on former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International soon.
However, Khalid said police are not investigating SRC International.
Previously, the police said they were investigating 1MDB based on the Public Accounts Committee report on it.
In August 2016, Khalid said the first phase of the report had been completed.
The PAC report had among others said that former 1MDB CEO Shahrol Azral Hilmi should be held responsible for weaknesses in the investment firm’s decision-making process.
It had also highlighted how the 1MDB board did not approve a US$700 million transfer to Good Star – a company owned by controversial Penang-born tycoon Jho Low.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has been linked to the 1MDB scandal, with certain quarters claiming that the RM2.6 billion in his personal accounts originated from the firm.
The attorney-general later cleared Najib of any wrongdoing, and confirmed the claim that the sum was a donation from a member of the Saudi Royal family.
The US Department of Justice, however, alleged that US$631 million had been channelled from 1MDB through Jho Low controlled accounts into the account of an unnamed Malaysian Official 1 (MO1)

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan has said that MO1 is Najib, but argued that since he was not named, the prime minister is not part of the investigation.
On a related matter, Khalid snubbed a suggestion that a debate between Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz and former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad be held in the police auditorium in Cheras.
“A police station is not a place for debates. Debates should be done in Parliament,” the top cop said.
Nazri and Mahathir were supposed to square off in a debate last month, but police pulled the plug on the bout.
After another attempt to hold a debate was scuttled by the police, Nazri proposed that it be held at the police auditorium in Cheras.
Mahathir had planned to question Nazri regarding the 1MDB scandal if the debate took place.
