Takiyuddin pulls out of PAS VP race, favours status quo

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan today announced that he had pulled out of the PAS vice-president race, citing confidence in the existing leadership.
The incumbent vice-presidents Bukit Gantang MP Idris Ahmad, Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah and Selangor PAS chief and state executive councilor Iskandar Samad.
"I am confident the current composition can forge a brighter future for PAS, especially during the 14th general election," he said.
The Kota Bharu MP is also not contesting for a spot on the PAS central committee, for the year 2017 to 2019.
Takiyuddin is among the most senior members nominated for the vice-presidency and central committee membership, which will be decided at the party's general assembly in Alor Setar starting April 29.
Also nominated for the post is Temerloh MP and PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan.
Takiyuddin's decision to step out of the ring indicates he will remain in the secretary-general post, a post he obtained through appointment by party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

He also said that while he will not be seeking any positions, he will accept any appointments where he is deemed a fit.
Recent PAS elections have been fraught with heated in-fighting between the conservatives and those deemed more progressive.
The progressive faction were wiped out in the last muktamar in June 2015, the same month the Pakatan Rakyat coalition was dissolved over PAS-DAP disputes.- Mkini
