AG reluctant to touch on disqualification of Sarawak DAP rep

Attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali says he does not dare to coment on the disqualification of DAP Pujut assemblyperson Ting Tiong Choon, citing he wasn't sure about the facts.
"The law is clear, but I am not sure about the facts," he said when met at the 17th Asean Senior Law Officials Meeting (Aslom) in Putrajaya today.
"In law, you cannot have dual citizenship. It is clear," Apandi said.
"I don't have the real facts through. (It's) very sketchy, so I don't dare to comment," he responded when asked whether such a decision should be made by a court of law.

On May 12, the Sarawak state legislative assembly disqualified Ting, who is from the DAP, as the Pujut assemblyperson based on a motion from state International Trade and E-Commerce Minister Woon Soon Koh, who is also Bawang Assan assemblyperson, because Ting has dual citizenship, Malaysian and Australian.
The motion was passed after it was seconded by 70 assemblypersons, while another 10 objected to it.
In his defence, Ting said that he had renounced Australian citizenship in April 2016, one month before the May 7, 2016 state election was held.
