KUALA LUMPUR: Ainnurul Aisyah Yunos Ali Maricar doesn’t know when her husband, Ihsan Aslan, will be released from police custody, or when her children would get to see him again.
But to calm her three children, who were overjoyed by the brief reunion with their father today, Ainnurul told them that Aslan would be coming home in a few days.
“The kids were very happy to be with their father. (Before they left), they hugged him tight.
“So I told them Baba (father) would come back in a few days.”
Ainnurul was speaking to reporters outside Bukit Aman police headquarters here, where they spent almost an hour with Aslan.
Her eldest son, 10-year-old Muhammed Rafael who is autistic, was seen holding her hands tight while crying for his father.
On the phone with FMT later, Ainnurul said Muhammed continued crying all the way home.
“He was wondering why his father wasn’t coming back with us.”
She had, yesterday, told a press conference that Muhammed has been sitting at the window every night, waiting for his father to come back.
She also said due to Muhammed’s condition, his way of expressing his longing for Aslan was to slap his face repeatedly, and by biting his arms.
Turkish citizen Aslan was initially thought to have been abducted after Ainnurul failed to contact him on the evening of May 2.
The next day, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted that Aslan along with another Turkish man, Turgay Karaman, were actually arrested in connection with activities that threatened national security. Another Turkish man, Ismet Ozcelik, was also arrested on Thursday.
The three of them are now being detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
Asked how her husband was, Ainnurul said he appeared healthy and fine.
“There were a lot of happy tears,” she said, with a small smile.
“But I stand by my previous statement, that I’m confident my husband did nothing wrong.
“If there is any shred of evidence linking him to any illegal activities, Aslan should be given his day in court, in Malaysia, to answer for any charges against him.” -FMT
