The Commission will convene a special meeting to conclude and finalise its decision, says EC chairman.
PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) will abide by the Kuching High Court’s decision to reinstate Dr Ting Tiong Choon as the Pujut state assemblyman today.
EC chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah said with the High Court declaring that there was no vacancy for the Pujut state seat, Dr Ting’s position in the assembly remained as status quo, reported the New Straits Times.
“The Commission will convene a special meeting to conclude and finalise its decision on the important dates fixed for the by-election,” he said.
The EC would abide and take necessary action in line with the court’s decision, he added.
“A special meeting will be held to finalise our decisions on the important dates previously fixed for the by-election in Pujut,” said Hashim in a statement today.
However, no specific time frame was given for the special meeting.
The nomination and polling day for the Pujut by-election were previously fixed for June 20 and July 4 respectively. -FMT
