Previin grieves over his best friend’s death

T Previin, 19, found out Nhaveen was gone only after the latter’s remains were cremated.
“On Friday night, he kept wanting us to take him to Nhaveen, thinking he was still in the Penang Hospital intensive care unit,” Previin’s mother, K. Kalyani, told The Star at the hospital yesterday.
She said when the family finally told him, Previin cried nonstop.
Nhaveen and Previin were attacked by five teenagers, whom they recognised as friends and former schoolmates.
One of them allegedly abducted Nhaveen, dragging him to a nearby field, where he was later found unconscious with wounds to his head, hip, private parts and anus.
He was later rushed to the Penang Hospital but died later.
Previin underwent surgery to reconstruct his cheekbone after it was crushed due to the beating he received from the five teenagers.
Both friends finished Form Five last year. Previin had said Nhaveen often complained about being bullied at school.
Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation Penang chapter vice-chairman K.R. Pulayantran visited Previin yesterday and pledged to conduct awareness campaigns on bullying in schools.
Previin’s uncle M.G.R. Devan said Previin would be discharged in a few days but he feared for the teen’s safety as he was the only witness.
“We’ll request for police protection after he is discharged,” said Devan.
Police have reclassified Nhaveen’s death as murder, after initially investigating it as a rioting case under the Penal Code.
