S'wak BN condemns 'samseng' Nazri over 'jagung' insult

Sarawak BN Youth has condemned Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz for hurling insults at a Sarawakian minister over the controversial new tax on hotels.
In a statement today, Sarawak BN Youth chief Fadillah Yusof said Mohamed Nazri's dressing down of state Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah yesterday was not done in the BN spirit.
"The act of labelling the Sarawak minister as setahun jagung (greenhorn) and a child is an insult to Abdul Karim, who has been given the state leadership's trust to lead the ministry," said Fadillah.
Yesterday, Mohamed Nazri said Abdul Karim should not have brought up the Malaysia Agreement 1963 to argue for the deferment of the new tax on hotel rooms.
However, Mohamed Nazri's comments included several personal attacks, accusing Abdul Karim of being a political greenhorn. Abdul Karim was appointed to the Sarawak cabinet only in May.
Mohamed Nazri also accused Abdul Karim of being a "samseng" (thug) and that the former was an even bigger "samseng".
On the "samseng" remark, Fadillah said that such insults were not necessary as it can affect BN's image.

"Plus 'samseng' is not a culture in BN or in the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB)," said Fadillah, who is also federal works minister and PBB Youth chief.
Any disagreement within BN should be dealt with through dialogue and not public statements, he added.
The new tax, dubbed a "tourism tax", would impose a levy of up to RM20 for hotel rooms, regardless of whether the tenant were renting rooms for business or leisure.  - Mkini
