Dog meat sold at stall in Sibu, man arrested

Police find stall, slaughterhouse during raid at premises following rabies outbreak in state.
Saiful-Bahari-Abdullah-dog-in-cagePETALING JAYA: A raid by police at a slaughterhouse in Sibu, Sarawak discovered the gruesome sight of dog meat, which was also being sold at a stall in the same location.

Police arrested a 54-year-old man after a raid, following allegations that he sold dog meat at his food stall, which is located on the ground floor of a row of wooden houses, Star reported.
Sibu Municipal Council and the state veterinary department officials joined the police in the raid on the premises located along Jalan Rambutan.
Following the raid on Tuesday, police told the daily that the man had admitted to selling dog meat for the past 30 years, but mainly to regular customers.
According to Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Saiful Bahari Abdullah, the man is being detained to assist in investigations under Section 428 of the Penal Code for causing mischief by killing or maiming any animal.
Incidentally, the existence of the illegal dog meat business was only uncovered by the authorities following the rabies outbreak in Serian that has already claimed the lives of two children, with another two still receiving treatment. - FMT
