MALAYS FLEE UMNO & PAS FOR DR M-ANWAR: HARAPAN NO LONGER NEEDS PAS TO WIN GE14, SAY PAS’ OWN SUPPORTERS

PAS supporters are now so put off by its attitude that they couldn’t care less if the Islamist party loses its seats in the next elections.
The now Pakatan Harapan supporters said the party has diverged from its original objectives and no longer relevant in the opposition coalition, whose second ceramah on 1MDB last night attracted around 2,000 Selangor residents.
“I don’t think we miss PAS’ presence in Pakatan Harapan because the aim is to fight tyranny.   PAS can say it is also fighting against injustice but anyone can say that,” Zul A. Talib, a Shah Alam resident since 1999 told The Malaysian Insight.
The 43-year-old said PAS is now friendlier towards Umno, unlike when the party was part of the defunct Pakatan Rakyat coalition, which collapsed after the former cut ties with DAP in 2015.
“We don’t care if PAS doesn’t win this constituency (in the next GE). The power to change government lies in our hands, that’s the message,” he said.
In the 12th and 13th general elections, former PAS lawmaker Khalid Samad won the Shah Alam seat by more than 9,000 votes.
Khalid is now with Amanah, an offshoot of the Islamist party.
Former PAS member Mohamad Razali Ahmad said the party was directionless after it decided to leave opposition coalition.
“I respect the late Fadzil Noor and Nik Aziz, how they preached and managed to unite people from all races to come together. But when Hadi takes over, he cuts everything,” Razali said, referring to the late Fadzil Muhammad Noor and Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, and current president, Abdul Hadi Awang.
“I have left (PAS) and joined Amanah. Now all parties have become one, making it easier for the people to choose  .”
Finance officer Mohd Alityanis Hamzah, 27, said he was concerned when PAS first left PH, but the new line-up announced last week has given supporters new hope.
“But now, I’m confident with the new partnership and I hope they can stay united to bring change in the elections.”
He added that last night’s ceramah helped increase people’s understanding of the 1MDB issue.
“It was very interesting when all the main leaders came and the explanation was very clear,” he said.
This is the second stop in a roadshow by PH to explain the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal to Malay Muslims who are key voters in the next general election.
The ceramah is also the first programme by the coalition after it announced its much-awaited leadership line-up.
Although an urban parliamentary seat, Shah Alam’s Malay Muslim residents are well-known for being ultra-conservative. The city is home to a large Malay population from Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.
