‘THE REAL KAJANG MOVE’: NAJIB SAVORS RARE ‘SWEET REVENGE’ AGAINST HIS 1MDB TORMENTOR RAFIZI

Often the recipient of criticism on social media, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak won favour among Malaysian Twitter users today when he threw shade on PKR in a quip over the soon-to-be-opened Kajang MRT station.
“The Real Kajang Move. Coming to you in seven days. #JomNaikMRT,” he tweeted, along with a picture of a signboard providing directions to the station.
The quip was an obvious dig at PKR’s political manoeuvre in 2015 to trigger the Kajang by-election.
The joke was not lost on Twitter users, who tittered over Najib’s jibe.
Many replied with popular memes, including one where former US president Barack Obama deliberately drops a microphone to the ground, a move often used in popular culture to show one has won a competition.
“Ooh, we got some shade,” read an animated GIF shared by a respondent, while another replied with a meme of PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli blocking a user on Twitter.
Rafizi has a reputation of blocking critics on Twitter, but has previously argued that he has the right to stop harassment on his social media account.
The Kajang Move, as dubbed by its architect and then-PKR strategist Rafizi, was a plan to replace Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor Menteri Besar.

The end game was to replace Khalid with PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, by first electing Anwar into the state assembly.
To do so, PKR’s incumbent assemblyperson for Kajang CC Lee vacated his position, triggering a by-election in March 2014.
Despite her victory, PKR could not push for Wan Azizah to become MB, with the Selangor sultan finally favouring Azmin Ali for the post.
The Kajang Move was largely seen as a flop, but Rafizi stressed the main objective of unseating Khalid had been achieved.
Khalid was sacked by PKR in August that year and is now an Independent assemblyperson and MP.
