‘Wrong way’ teen driver charged with reckless driving

Ng Pei Ven pleads not guilty to the charge, which carries a jail term of not less than two years and a fine of not less than RM5,000.

Ng-Pei-VenPETALING JAYA: A teenager who drove against traffic on the North-South Expressway in March, causing a fatal accident, has been charged with reckless driving.
Ng Pei Ven, 19, was charged under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987 with driving recklessly to the extent of causing the death of Mohamad Fandi Rosli, 26, The Star reported.
Ng pleaded not guilty to the charge, which was read out at the Magistrate’s Court in Bukit Mertajam yesterday.
She was initially charged under Section 44 of the act, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years.
Ng was unaccompanied by her lawyer during the case mention.
Magistrate Jamaliah Abd Manap set Aug 28 for next mention and ordered that her lawyer be present.
Ng allegedly drove against traffic for five kilometres from the Sungai Dua toll plaza to Butterworth at 7.50am on March 14.
Her car crashed into a Perodua Kelisa, killing the driver, Mohamad Fandi.
If convicted, Ng faces a jail term of not less than two years and a fine of not less than RM5,000.
Her driving licence has been suspended for the duration of the trial. -FMT
