RoS Says Pribumi’s 2016 EGM Is Invalid

(The Star) – The Registrar of Societies (RoS) does not recognise Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held on Nov 2 last year as only 12 of its supreme council members attended the meeting.

“RoS has scrutinised the party’s ‘2016 EGM minutes’ and found that only 12 members of the supreme council had their attendance recorded,” said its director-general Surayati Ibrahim (pic).

“Therefore, it is not recognised as an EGM or AGM (Annual General Meeting), which the party has yet to organise since its inception,” Surayati said, adding that this effectively meant that until today, the party has not organised any EGM or AGM.

“A media statement made by the party’s secretary-general claims that it organised an EGM on Nov 2, 2016, but the fact is that was only a supreme council meeting and not an EGM.

According to Surayati, Clause 28, which refers to amendment of Pribumi’s constitution, states that “any amendment to the party’s constitution must be endorsed by not less than two-thirds of the delegates present at the AGM or EGM”.

Surayati also said that Pribumi cannot use the term “Armada” to refer to its youth wing as it is not stated in the party’s constitution.

She said the RoS became aware of this issue after it received complaints from several sacked Armada exco members.

“Upon realising that ‘Armada’ does not exist in the party’s constitution, the sacked members felt cheated by the party. We received complaints from 33 members on this.

“The term ‘Armada’ is illegal and not recognised by the RoS, and its usage is an offence that could lead to serious action being taken against the party, including deregistration,” she said.

Pribumi secretary-general Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh was summoned to the RoS earlier this week to respond to the complaints.
