Can Nawawi beat Dr M in Langkawi? 'No comment', says Umno MP

Dr Mahathir Mohamad may have been named as Pakatan Harapan's candidate for prime minister, but where he will make his parliamentary comeback is still unanswered.
One of the seats the former premier is eyeing is Langkawi, the island that many credit him for transforming into a tourism haven.
The seat is currently an Umno stronghold, held by first time MP Nawawi Ahmad.
Nawawi had won the seat with an 11,861 majority or 67 percent of the vote, but when asked if he could defeat Mahathir, the Umno lawmaker responded with a chuckle before saying: "No comment."
He said Umno "remained strong" in Langkawi, but when pressed on whether he would defend the seat, merely said: "InsyaAllah (God willing)."
Mahathir himself does not see Langkawi as a safe bet, saying that the redrawing of electoral boundaries and movement of voters would pose a significant challenge for Bersatu.
The Bersatu chairperson is also considering contesting in either his old seat Kubang Pasu or in Putrajaya.
Nawawi has made a number of gaffes since being elected to Parliament, including saying that his salary was paid by the government not the people; and linking MO1 (Malaysian Official 1) to the Yang diPertuan Agong.
MO1 is a term coined by the US Department of Justice to refer to a Malaysian top official involved in the 1MDB scandal.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan has said that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is MO1.- Mkini
