The former grand imam of Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, Sheikh Ekrima Sa'id Sabri on Wednesday expressed his appreciation to Malaysia for the stand it has taken on Jerusalem and the Palestinians’ plight.
This was conveyed by Malaysia's Federal Territory mufti Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri on his official Facebook account today.
Zulkifli who is representing Malaysia at the ongoing “World Conference To Support The Cause of Jerusalem” in Egypt had unofficially met up with Sheikh Ekrima, on the sideline of the conference.
He said Sheikh Ekrima had expressed the deepest of appreciation to the government and people of Malaysia for their undivided support to the Palestinian cause.
In his struggles, Sheikh Ekrima was once also kept in house arrest by the Israel like the late Palestine president Yasser Arafat. He has also visited Malaysia twice, once in 2003 and in October last year, where he had called on Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak .
Meanwhile, the conference in Egypt's Al Azhar Centre took off on Wednesday. Zulkifli was invited to participate in the conference along with other leading Islamic religious leaders and thinkers to find a resolution towards the Jerusalem cause.
