The former chief executive officer of the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM), Saifuddin Abdullah, has said the government-linked body should be scrapped.
The organisation was set up during Najib Abdul Razak's premiership and was meant to combat extremism and promote moderation.
"It should be closed," Saifuddin said about the GMM, as reported by Free Malaysia Today this morning.
However, he did not elaborate further on why he thought GMM should be closed.
Saifuddin helmed GMM until shortly after he defected from Umno to PKR in 2015. He was replaced by former PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa.
Najib had cultivated an image of a moderate for himself internationally and first mooted the idea of GMM during a United Nations general assembly on Sept 27, 2010. -Mkini
